Hazel Blears Wants to Protect Local Town Centres

Hazel BlearsCommunities Secretary Hazel Blears has described measures that will encourage local groups to take over shops left empty after businesses have gone bust.

Hazel explained "Town centres are the heartbeat of every community and businesses are the foundation so it is vital that they remain vibrant places for people to meet and shop. Empty shops can be eyesores and crime magnets. Our ideas for reviving town centres will give communities the know how to temporarily transform vacant premises into something innovative for the community and stop the high streets being boarded up."

The plans were outlined after a recent prediction claimed that more than 70,000 shops will close this year.

Just a thought...wouldn't it be far easier to assit those local shops before they went out of business by preventing the construction of inappropriate developments that are in conflict with local, regional and national planning policies?

We're confident that Hazel is on top of that one.
