LCC Objects to Inappropriate Retail Development in Kirkby
Following advice provided by experts in their field, Cushman & Wakefield LLP, Liverpool City Council have formally objected to the Knowsley planning application by Tesco Stores Ltd. The advice given surrounds the clear departure from agreed local, regional and national planning policy. Aside from KEIOC spokesperson Dave Kelly addressing the planning committee, with genuine concerns as to the viability of this application, Council Leader Warren Bradley joined forces with Labour Leader Joe Anderson in condemnation of the Tesco led application. Councillor Bradley described the Cushman & Wakefield report as excellent whilst Councillor Anderson described it as a powerful report that clearly exposes the detrimental effect that this development will have on current Liverpool retail centres. Both Councillors urged the planning committee to uphold the findings of the expert report and submit a clear objection to Knowsley Council.
As expected by KEIOC the council planning committee decided unanimously to object to the Knowsley planning application and due to Liverpool’s position in the retail hierarchy this will inevitably lead to a Government inquiry.
